Recycled Copper Wire and Weaving
Learning to sew her own dresses at the early age of 8 years old. Indigo has now combined that skill, along with her interest in textile and pattern design, into her art.
The natural progression for her was to combine weaving and Recycled Copper Wire with recycled clothing, resulting in her garment "Land and Sea Entwined".
The colours of this garment were inspired by her surroundings in Golden Bay - the turquoise and blue of the sea.
Behind the Masks
Indigo found that while creating her Recycled Copper Wire Masks it became about the journey of removing different masks we often wear throughout our life.
Weaving by Indigo Wise - using harakeke for weaving
Harakeke was the name given to the plant by the Maori
and the first European traders called it flax.
Native NZ flax can be used for weaving a variety of objects.
It can be used in its natural state or it can be prepared and
dyed to a colour of your choice.
Indigo enjoys using Harakeke in her artwork, turning it
into a usable object or a piece of art she finds very satisfying.
"it brings such a sense of connection with nature and gratitude
to the planet for the gift it provides"
She sustainably harvests all of the Harakeke used in her artwork.
